Vagrant Story actually shares its setting with FFT: Ivalice. If you are a Final Fantasy Tactics fan, there are tons of references around through item descriptions. The game is very well written, and uses "Shakesperian" english to great effort. It's something to be experienced for sure. Moreover, the sound design is great as well, and you actually feel inside a long abandoned, cursed city. The dungeons have their own invisible traps (which you can make visible through a spell), and block puzzles, which you need to move around to access different sections of Leá Monde. This is in contrast to games like Skyrim or Fallout, where enemies pretty much differ from each other by how much damage they deal to you, and little else. Enemies have a good variety of skills and tricks, meaning you won't feel like you are battling the same enemy over an over again. But it is not as simple as "higher tier = better", as some equipment, particularly wooden protection, actually makes your magical skills better than the equipment that offers better protection against physical attacks. The game also has a "material" system: the better the material, the better your equipment will be. and acquire better (or worse) pieces of equipment. You can go to specific workshops littered throughout Leá Monde to combine your different swords, axes, spears, shields, armor, etc. Your reliance on equipment is made more meaningful through the equipment combination mechanic. These abilities can range from "do extra damage" to "drain some of the enemy's HP". As you acquire new skills, your combos get progressively stronger and more interesting. It has definitely the most engaging combat I've ever experienced in an RPG, and one of the most rewarding to boot. All of that out of the way, here's why, if you don't mind about the disadvantages mentioned above, you should get this game: - Vagrant Story has the most engaging combat I've ever experienced in a videogame, bar tactics/strategy videogames. I don't like JRPGs as much as I did when I was a teenager. I say this because those two are some of the most popular RPGs ever made, so it is important that you have an idea of what I think of these "acclaimed" videogames. Fallout 3 and Skyrim, to boot, deserve no score higher than a solid 70 out of 100. Of these, none of them, I repeat, NONE of them, deserve anything higher than a solid 90 out of 100. I have played Morrowind, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, Planescape: Torment, Fallout. This is my first Metacritic review, and probably my only one. So now you will probably want to hear what is so good about this game, why is it a 99 out of 100? Before I say that, I want to mention a few things. Dependence on equipment and the combo system. Heavy emphasis on combat and dungeon crawling. I've already told you the reasons you may dislike this game: - Lack of NPCs. This is the only reason why I give this game a 99 out of 100. This is one of the frustrating aspects this game has for most players, made even worse by the fact the game lacks a proper switch-weapons hotkey. Even in the early game the "good" weapons still won't do much damage to the opponents. Use the wrong weapon, and you may find yourself doing laughable damage to your enemy, or no damage at all. Because of this heavy emphasis on equipment, you will need to use every weapon at your disposal. In addition to these increases, you may or not find stat increasing items, though this are rare. Your stats only increase by defeating the bosses scattered throughout the game, all of which you will encounter as you advance through the main storyline. You should also know that the game heavily relies on equipment to defeat your enemies. There are no NPCs for you to interact with: it is you, Ashley Riot, against the monsters inside the city of Leá Monde. I can't emphasize this enough: the game is HEAVY no the dungeon crawling. This game's combat relies on combos executed through a rhythm mini-game, where you press a button of your choosing to execute another attack upon seeing an exclamation mark pop up above Ashley's head. It is a dungeon crawler, you play lone ranger Ashley Riot has he explores the ruins of Leá Monde searching for the antagonist of the game. Before I go in-depth, I will tell you a few things you should know about Vagrant Story. And to me, the score that more closely represents this game is a 99/100. Before I I gave this game a 10 because it was either that or a 9. I gave this game a 10 because it was either that or a 9. The supporting cast features a solid performance by Marisol Nichols (Hermione on “Riverdale”) as the hard-nosed Captain Angie Garza who is always yelling at the detectives in the spirit of the great Frank McRae (who we just lost last week at the age of 80) who played the angry police chief in “48 Hours” and “Last Action Hero.” He does deliver a funny monologue about “Forrest Gump” that fits nicely as a moment of levity and should he and this franchise continue I’d like to see more of Rock’s naturally funny side surface. There are a couple of scenes where a little more restraint would have elevated the moment, but I imagine it’s hard not to get hype when you’re caught up in the intensity of the moment, and you’re Chris Rock. Rock is a welcomed addition to the franchise. Now at 42, I believe he may have lost some of his mojo after I noticed that, while the gruesome scenes are still shocking, the camera pulls away before it reaches “Romero-mode” - this could also indicate that Bousman was avoiding an NC-17 rating. When director Darren Lynn Bousman walked away from the franchise in 2007 after helming “II,” “III,” and “IV,” he was 28. I can handle most gore but if it gets too crazy, I’m looking away. Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead.” 40 years later, I’m about a 7. I would freezeframe and rewind the goriest scenes in George A. It becomes evident that a serial killer is on the loose whose method recalls long-dead serial killer John Kramer aka Jigsaw (the main antagonist of the horror franchise) after more crooked cops are targeted and killed in the same ghastly manner as the film’s first victim Boz. Most of the father-son scenes are restrained unless there’s a traumatic event taking place as in the flashback where Marcus arrives at a crime scene to find his son with a bullet wound after no one showed up when the “officer needs assistance” call went out. There are only a handful of times that Jackson shares the screen with Rock, those moments are golden, and it’s surprising how the two animated actors cancel each other out. Jackson portrays Zeke’s father, retired Police Chief Marcus Bank, whose legacy casts a shadow over his son’s career. Even though the officer was dirty, the squad feels betrayed, and this caused Zeke to get shot when no one responded to his plea for backup while on a case. “Spiral” is being shown in select IMAX theaters, so, depending on your GTL (Gore Tolerance Level)- 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest - it’s either a “Yikes!” or a “Yes!” To figure out your GTL level, count how many seconds it takes you to look away.īoz was a friend of Detective Zeke (Rock), maybe his only one, at a precinct where most of the police officers have turned against the Serpico-like investigator who once turned in a crooked cop. Minutes later we witness the first grisly death involving a train and the tongue-tied officer who’s held captive in a “SAW”-like contraption. The film opens on the Fourth of July as off-duty Detective “Boz” Bozwick (Daniel Petronijevic) is in hot pursuit of a purse snatcher at a local carnival who leads him down a shaft to the subway tunnels. Jackson, Marisol Nichols, Daniel Petronijevic, Richard Zeppieri, Ali Johnson, Zoie Palmer, K.C. Therefore, with Saw 10 officially on the horizon, it's likely that news about the Spiral: From the Book of Sawsequel, Spiral 2, will be out shortly.Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Samuel L. Despite some almost franchise-ending flops, especially during the 2010s, the Saw IP has stood the test of time and promises to be even bigger going into the 2020s - and the Spiral spin-off is definitely helping with the renewed interest. While Jigsaw fell into these same traps, Spiral most assuredly didn't. While Saw VI is a fan favorite, Saw IV and onward weren't the most well-received films, with many critiquing the re-hashed storylines and poor acting. The Saw franchise itself has experienced some great high points and some incredibly low ones too. With a new Jigsaw copycat, Spiral has opened up a world of possibilities to exist alongside the new Saw movie. Spiral managed to take the dying franchise in a whole new direction, and has gone from soft reboot to fully fledged spinoff. With Saw 10 and Tobin Bell's return as Jigsaw on the way, many are wondering when Spiral 2 will make its big debut. CHICAGO - A few weeks ago, Klondike appalled the internet when it said that the Choco Taco would be discontinued. The Oregonian reports that Milwuakie’s Holler Treats has plans to bring back a version they once served at the Woodlark Hotel’s bar Abigail Hall. Portlanders can’t seem to shape their ice cream cones into tacos, dip them in chocolate and crust them in peanuts fast enough. Turns out, it’s not the most complex confection. Bon Appétit discussed the Twitter-hatched plans of a Reddit co-founder and baby Schwarzenegger to buy the discontinued ice cream truck staple. After the Choco Taco news broke, a friend reached out to Padilla to let him know he was likely going to get a flood of orders for his version. Food and Wine posits that it’s a Taco Bell-inspired marketing ploy, akin to the resurrected Mexican pizza. If you are already fluent in the latest Beyonce, we’re assuming you’re tapped in enough to have seen the craze surrounding the freezer aisle casualty. But now their last-minute or even ongoing changes won’t slow you down. Your collaborators don’t need any special software, and can continue to work exactly as they always have. With WordsFlow building on the standard file linking mechanisms you already know for graphics, there are no learning pains.Īnd there is no barrier to using WordsFlow-just install the plug-in, select Place with WordsFlow and proceed using the normal place dialog. It’s this magic that saves you from endless error-prone manual merging. We call this the “magic merge-update,” since it seems like magic the first times you see it working. Instead of letting InDesign replace the linked story wholesale, it applies a complex algorithm behind the scenes to merge the changes made to the external document since the last update into the current InDesign story contents (and to detect any conflicts). You can update the story when you’re ready, using the normal link-update invocations, such as a double-click on the modified icon.Īs the link update starts, WordsFlow kicks in. When you or anyone else makes to changes that file (locally or in a shared-file situation), InDesign will notice that the link’s source has changed, and change the link’s status to “modified” in the Links panel (a yellow alert icon, as shown here). When you place the original Word or Excel file (or any text file), WordsFlow asks InDesign to keep a special kind of dynamic link to the file. In either case, you end up wasting a lot of time in a highly error-prone process. Or, if you’re more sophisticated, you might use a file-difference utility, going through each change, manually editing the InDesign story to match, and scratching your head a lot. In the past, you might bite your tongue and simply re-place the story, losing all your hard work, then go through and manually make all the same changes you made before, hoping you’re not forgetting something (and likely losing that bet). Then, the author or your editor sends you another version of the file, and expects you to figure out what changed, and weave those changes into what you hoped was the final story. If you use InDesign for production, you already know the pain point: an author sends you a story via email or file-sharing, and you’ve placed it in your InDesign publication, fixing typos, changing formatting, adding and deleting text, etc. Your authors and editors are no longer “frozen out” once layout begins. So you can format, layout, and edit in InDesign, while your authors and editors continue creating and editing story content in Word and Excel, all without ever losing work. The Pro version provides a two-way link so you can push your InDesign story changes back to Word format. With WordsFlow, you place Word documents (including tables and graphics) and Excel spreadsheets (Pro version) as InDesign story contents normally, using a familiar place dialog.īut, behind the scenes, WordsFlow maintains a dynamic link so it can intelligently merge external document changes into the InDesign story contents on each link update, rather than just replacing the story. WordsFlow, a plug-in for InDesign, for the first time combines the editing power of Word and Excel with the layout power of InDesign, adding its own dynamic linking and sophisticated merge technologies to supercharge your editorial and production workflows. (Expand to full-screen for best viewing.) Bring your authors and editors into your InDesign production process If you prefer a screencast as an overview, here’s a 4 minute WordsFlow walkthrough. You can do all this, and more, with WordsFlow, your Word-based time machine. What if you could export original InDesign content to a new linked Word document, allowing collaborators to work in their native tools, and then re-import their changes with a click, using the same magic merge?.What if you could push your content changes back to the linked Word document at any time, staying synchronized with your authors and editors?.What if, when they had updates, you could magically merge their work into yours with a click (as a link update), without losing any work on either side, and with automatic notification of any conflicts?. What if you could place Word and Excel documents with live links in InDesign, and proceed with production, while your authors and editors continued working on the original documents?.What if you could have a time machine to speed up your Microsoft Word-based editorial production in InDesign?.Live-link and magic-merge Word and Excel documents Occasionally, email servers particularly Outlook servers mangle the attachment. Heck, it might just be the release to put it neck and neck with the great Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Add more fresh multiplayer features, more racers (and tracks), and more bonus goodies, and you could have a winner for this generation. So…why not more racing love?Īt the very least, an HD treatment of the game (for Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X) wouldn’t be a bad thing. This is the year of Sonic after all, with Sonic Frontiers and a new movie coming this year. That said, maybe the time has come for a new entry in the series, preferably a sequel to Transformed. Even though it couldn’t compare with Transformed (it was based solely on elements from Sonic’s world), it wasn’t bad. Team Sonic Racing came out a little while ago (from Sumo Digital). It’s unknown what the fate of Sonic Racing is at the moment. They even have a Burning Rangers track, people. New routes open up as well, and unpredictable changes can make things interesting. The tracks transform as well, with bits and pieces crumbling apart. In fact, 16 in all are included, along with conditions that could change over the course of each race. Tracks based on the above franchises are included, along with Jet Set Radio, Shinobi and more. This includes a time trial race with windows to drive through, a drift challenge in particular zones with curves, and an elimination race with AI opponents.Īgain, the track selection is outrageously good. It takes crackerjack timing in some cases, but the result is a nice shot to get first place.Ī variety of race types are also available in Transformed. Players can pull off flips, barrel rolls, and other little stunts (while airborne) to gain turbo boosts. On top of that, Sumo Digital introduced a fun trick system that’s executed with the right analog stick. The gamble paid off big time as the game still offers racing thrills galore today. Not to mention the game’s awesome drift system, which is fun in its own right – and easier than Mario Kart. At the same time, they also need to watch out for attacks from incoming players and environmental obstacles. As a result, some races were unpredictable and forced players to keep on their toes for turbo boosts and power-ups. Throughout certain tracks, vehicles would automatically transform to fit this new terrain, taking a concept that was introduced in Rare’s previously released Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64 and pretty much perfecting it. The team not only put several tracks in place based on hit Sega franchises like Panzer Dragoon, After Burner, Outrun, and Golden Axe, but it also introduced a concept where vehicles could change into different formats – land, air, and sea. Now, you might be saying, “Wait, a Sonic game that can keep up with Mario Kart? How is that possible?” It all comes down to the savvy designers at Sumo Digital. Take That, Diddy Kong Racing, Sonic is here! The Nintendo Switch re-release of the Wii U game has been a hot seller for the platform, with millions of copies flying off the shelves and online play keeping fans entertained for hours. When people usually want a go-to multiplayer racing game, there’s usually just one genuine choice – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. To think, nearly ten years after its release (it came out in 2012!), it still hasn’t lost its luster. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is that game, loaded with all sorts of Sega fan service across beautifully designed tracks, a memorable soundtrack, and a notable roster of racing superstars. However, there is a contender out there that makes an argument for a strong second-place finish. In this regard, planner apps can be very basic or feature-rich.įor example, at one end of the spectrum are the calendar-based planner apps to keep important dates and set reminders, and at the other end, there are project-focused planner apps which you can use to manage time and other project resources.Ģ. Thus, the planner app should offer features that’ll help you achieve what you desire. If you’re going for a planner app, it is because of what it can help you achieve. To choose the best planner app, you need to look at several factors. However, on the benefit end, these apps can help improve personal and professional productivity. Many of these apps are free, while many of the feature-laden paid versions cost less than $10. So, except you’ll want the less-efficient team collaboration solutions, you’ll need a planner app to stay on top of your team’s activities.Īlso, a cost-benefit analysis of planner apps easily shows that they are worth it. That is, you can easily assign tasks to team members, get their comments, track their progress, and more. So, except you have a computer brain, one of the best ways to be on top of a load of tasks is by using planner apps.Īlso, the best planner apps allow for collaboration with teams. When there is a lot to do, it is easier for slippages to occur. Also, you’ll find a planner app very useful if you always have a lot to do or you collaborate with others in a team. Planer apps are either free or cost only a token but help improve personal and professional productivity, so they are worth it. This is to notify planners when it is time to execute. Thus, the best planner apps all have the reminder feature. Organizing your tasks will mean nothing if their execution time comes and passes without you realizing it. These include prioritizing tasks, breaking down tasks into smaller tasks, etc. Whatever the approach, after creating tasks for particular dates, you can then proceed to managing the tasks. With others, clicking on particular calendar dates open up fields for you to enter tasks for that date. With many of the planner apps, the approach is to open the task field, enter tasks, and assign them calendar dates. So, every planner app, no matter how basic, allows you to create tasks and includes a calendar. Planner apps are all about helping you organize your tasks. However, at their core is a system for entering and managing tasks and a system for reminding you of when to complete scheduled tasks. There is a wide range of planner apps, each one offering different features. The planner apps can be seen as digital versions of the to-do lists. In the days gone by, the solution was creating to-do lists, and striking off the tasks as you complete them. As a result, one could lose track of important tasks – not planning for them, or planning for them but not remembering to execute them when the time comes. Sometimes, there can be so much to do that one can easily become overwhelmed. A planner app is simply a productivity app that helps organize all your activities, so that you are on top of everything, every time. Some digital voice recorders (usually more advanced models) use SD memory cards instead of built-in memory which makes it easy to extend the memory size if needed. Digital voice recorders which are available on our site come with memory sizes of 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. The smallest memory size you will find nowadays is 1GB which usually allows recording between 30 and 300 hours depending on the recording quality.
